The Minerals and Metals Cluster (MMC)
Background
Africa is richly endowed with minerals and accounts for 5 or more percent of the global production of Aluminum, Bauxite, Chromite, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Manganese, Nickel, Phosphate Rock, Titanium, Vermiculite, and Zirconium.
Southern Africa is the continent’s leading minerals exporter, accounting for the bulk of Africa’s production of Aluminum, Chromite, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Graphite, Iron and Steel, Iron Ore, Lead, Manganese, Nickel, Phosphate Rock, Titanium, Vermiculite, Zinc, and Zirconium, while West Africa leads in the production of Bauxite and Alumina.
The average GDP per capita of the 28 countries in the Minerals and Metals Cluster (MMC) is $3,800.
Of the 28 countries, six (Congo-Kinshasa, Guinea, Madagascar, Mauritania, Sudan, and Zimbabwe) are mired in ongoing political or ethnic conflict, often threatening access to mines and production.
About the B&M Minerals and Metals Cluster (MMC)
The B&M Minerals and Metals Cluster (MMC) is a highly specialized research group of B&M analysts that provides clients with timely analysis on political, economic, political, security and social developments affecting the production and supply of 18 key minerals and metals (by 28 producing countries), and forecasts the impact of these developments on a client’s bottom-line.
The Applications for Business and Investment
MMC analysts help clients incorporate political risk management into their plans for business in Africa, especially at the point of entry and expansion.
Our flexible research model and pioneering AfriRisk Index©, the first comparative country risk index modeled to monitor, measure, and forecast political, economic, social, and security risks unique to Africa, can be adapted to track categories of risks prevalent in the African mining sector and pertinent to a client’s investment plans, including the risk of mine expropriation.
